The Pharcyde – Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde (2LP, Colored Vinyl, 25th Anniversary Edition)
Not everything in the early ‘90s West Coast had to be gangster and hard—and Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde proved it.
Released in 1992, right in the middle of "gangster" rap’s dominance, this record flipped the tone completely. Loose, funny, offbeat—but still smacking. The production from J-Swift leans toward jazzy and warm, while the band moves between humor, storytelling, and straight-up honesty, without forcing a bit of it.
“Ya Mama,” “Otha Fish,” and especially “Passin’ Me By” gave it reach, but the whole album holds together as something different—sort of playful without being lightweight, creative without trying too hard. It’s part of that lane alongside 93 ’til Infinity (Souls of Mischief) showed just how wide hip-hop could actually be.
This 25th Anniversary Edition comes remastered and expanded across two LPs on colored vinyl (Clear, Yellow, & Blue), with bonus material pulled from the original singles—giving you the full picture of where this record sat at the time and still today.
Why this belongs in your collection:
Because it’s one of the few hip-hop classics that doesn’t sound like anything else—and still holds up, front to back.
