Metallica leveled up fast with Ride the Lightning. Dropped in ’84, this is where they went from raw thrash to something bigger—more structured, more melodic, but still just as heavy.

You can hear the growth right away. Acoustic parts, longer arrangements, and more layered songwriting—all without losing that speed and aggression. A lot of that comes from Cliff Burton, whose influence pushed the band into new territory musically.
